Roscommon Roscommon - Ireland WestWhat a pleasure it is to see a Grand National winner and to remember having seen him when he was just starting out… It’s no wonder that Roscommon racecourse is a firm favourite with trainers who know that this course is a great test for their potential winners; Imperial Call, the 1996 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner ran in his first novice chase at Roscommon, while Enzeli, the 1999 Ascot Gold Cup winner won a race here the year before his celebrated triumph. With a relaxed, intimate atmosphere often missing in the larger venues, Roscommon racecourse is very spectator-friendly, with great views of the track from the enclosures and the stands. The always-friendly staff like to make sure that you want for nothing while you visit and there are several restaurants and bars to whet your thirst and your appetite. The whole area is transformed during the racing and great fun can be had in the many cosy local pubs and restaurants, long after the winner has crossed the finishing line.
